How to apply Hempel's Silic One:
1. Previously painted boats: Application on top of old antifouling in good condition - easy change to Hempel's Silic One system
Hempel's Conversion Primer is a two-component epoxy primer for an easy change from antifouling to Hempel's Silic One Fouling Release system. It can be used on previously painted antifouling in good condition.
Pre-treatment: Identify the condition of the existing antifouling, using a metal scraper, to determine if the old antifouling adheres well enough. In case of poor adhesion, remove all loose/porous layers. Wet sand and rinse thoroughly with fresh water and allow the surface to dry.
Application: Mix the two components of Conversion Primer thoroughly to a uniform consistency. Please note that the product has a very low viscosity, running paint and unevenness must be smoothed out immediately. Thinning is NOT recommended. Pot life at 20°C: 8 hours. Minimum application temperature is 5°C.
If the overcoating interval is exceeded, a new coat of Hempel's Conversion Primer or Silic One Tiecoat must be applied.
2. New boat or untreated boat with epoxy
Pre-treatment: Clean with a suitable cleaning agent and sand with dry sandpaper (P120). Rinse thoroughly with water and allow the surface to dry.
Application: Apply coats of the paint system as indicated below. If the overcoating interval is exceeded, a new coat of Hempel's Light Primer or Silic One Tiecoat must be applied.
3. New boat without epoxy
Pre-treatment: Clean with a suitable cleaning agent and sand with dry sandpaper (P120). Rinse thoroughly with water and allow the surface to dry.
Application: Apply coats of the paint system as indicated below. If the overcoating interval is exceeded, a new coat of Hempel's Light Primer or Silic One Tiecoat must be applied.
