Description
A hand flare burns red at 15,000 cd for just over 1 minute, and you can see it up to 2 nautical miles away. Hand flares are suitable for inland waters and close to land.

Application:
You only fire rockets and flares when the ship and crew are in distress. And always wait to fire the final distress signal until it is likely that someone will see it - that is, until you can spot another ship or a helicopter.
