Aluminum anode that can replace traditional zinc anodes. Aluminum anodes have some advantages over traditional zinc anodes. The alloy that the aluminum anode is made of has a greater negative charge than zinc, as well as a longer lifespan, which means that the anode is more active and over a longer period. In total, an aluminum anode produces approximately 70% more Amp/Hours in its lifetime than a corresponding traditional zinc anode. As a side benefit, you halve the weight and save a little on the price.
NB: There must be no physical connection between aluminium and zinc anodes, as the aluminium anode will protect the zinc anode, therefore all anodes on e.g. drives and outboard motors must be either aluminium or zinc. Unlike zinc anodes which can only be used in salt water, aluminium can be used in both salt water and brackish water. Many manufacturers use aluminium anodes as standard today on their new engines & boats e.g. Mercruiser, Mercury, Yanmar, Selva, Torqeedo, Princess and Sunseeker.
