Fixed-mount VHF radio with GPS and Class D DSC from Cobra Marine, model MR F77B GPS E, is designed for safety, distress, navigation, and operational communication between vessels and coastal stations. The radio features selectable transmit power of 1 or 25 W, instant access to channel 16, and a dedicated DSC receiver on channel 70.
The integrated 56-channel GPS receiver displays the vessel's geographic position on the screen and can automatically transmit the position during a DSC distress call. The GPS receiver updates at up to 5 Hz and supports EGNOS, WAAS, MSAS, and GAGAN. If the internal GPS antenna does not have a sufficient signal, an external GPS can be connected via NMEA 0183.
Rewind-Say-Again records the last 20 seconds of incoming VHF traffic, allowing important messages to be played back. The Radio Check function tests battery voltage during transmission, RF transmit power, and antenna output. Operation also includes Dual Watch, channel scanning, memory channels, signal strength meter, softkeys, ATIS, noise-canceling microphone, illuminated keys, and a large backlit LCD display.
NMEA 0183 input and output allow for the connection of an external GPS and the transfer of DSC information about other vessels to a compatible chartplotter. The radio also supports an external speaker, PA speaker, and alarm input, allowing a waypoint or MOB alarm from a connected chartplotter to be reproduced through the radio's speaker.
The radio is built around a robust, die-cast aluminum frame and has an IPX7 rating. It measures 159 mm in width, 57 mm in height, and 180 mm in depth. It can be mounted on a tilting console bracket or flush-mounted; the cutout for flush mounting is 136 × 46 mm with 125 mm of required mounting depth. Free air circulation must be ensured around the cooling fins, and the installation must be placed at an appropriate distance from the magnetic compass.
The radio is intended for a nominal 12 V DC system with negative ground and a permissible supply range of 10–16 V DC. An external marine VHF antenna with appropriate coaxial cable and connector is required and is not included. Delivery includes transceiver, microphone, microphone holder, console mounting kit, flush mounting kit, GPS/NMEA interface cable, and user manual.
