This handheld marine VHF radio from Cobra Marine, model MR HH150 FLTE, is designed for maritime communication between vessels and between vessel and shore. The portable radio features selectable transmit power of 0.5 W, 1 W, or 3 W, as well as direct access to emergency and calling channel 16.
The radio features a floating design with orange high-visibility highlights, making it easier to find if dropped in the water. The housing is rated IPX7/JIS7 and can withstand submersion at a depth of 1 meter for up to 30 minutes when the batteries and battery cover are correctly installed.
Channel scanning, memory channel scanning, and Dual Watch make it possible to monitor channel 16 along with a selected channel. Up to 10 VHF channels can be stored in memory. Controls include a backlit LCD display, illuminated function keys, signal strength indicator, keypad lock, Roger Beep, battery level indicator, squelch, and Push-to-Talk.
The power supply consists of five rechargeable AAA NiMH batteries at 850 mAh per battery. Five AAA alkaline batteries can be used as an alternative but must not be charged in the radio. The included 12 V DC charging cable must therefore only be used when NiMH batteries are installed. The first charge takes 12-14 hours, and the automatic power-saver function is activated after approximately 10 seconds without a signal, transmission, or key press.
Operating time depends on battery type and transmit power. At a duty cycle of 5% transmit, 5% receive, and 90% standby, the operating time with NiMH batteries is 9.4 hours at 3 W, 12 hours at 1 W, and 20 hours at 0.5 W. With alkaline batteries, it is 26 hours at 3 W and 33 hours at 1 W.
The radio operates with a transmit frequency of 156.025-157.425 MHz and a receive frequency of 156.050-163.275 MHz. Audio output is 250 mW at 8 Ω, and there is a jack for a compatible external speaker/microphone. The product measures 117 × 69 × 38 mm and weighs 227 g without batteries. The specified operating temperature range is -20 °C to +50 °C.
The package contains the radio, five rechargeable AAA NiMH batteries, 12 V DC charging cable, spring-loaded belt clip, wrist strap, and user manual. Documented accessories include CM 330-001 speaker/microphone, CM 130-005 12 V DC charging cable, CM 120-006 AC wall charger, and CM 240-003 belt clip.
The model meets the Radio Equipment Directive 2014/53/EU and the RoHS Directive 2011/65/EU. During transmission, the radio must be kept at least 5 cm from people and at least 0.9 m from the vessel's magnetic navigation compass.
