Multifunctional marine lubricant and corrosion protector CRC 6-66 in a 5-litre bulk container is developed for lubrication, moisture displacement, and corrosion protection in marine environments. The product protects metals and alloys against rust and oxidation and can be used on, among other things, engine-related components, battery terminals, cables, plugs, switches, antennas, generators, nuts, bolts, locks, hinges, chrome parts, and fishing gear.
The formulation is based on paraffin oil and a multi-component organic inhibitor system. The liquid displaces moisture and forms a continuous, oily, and almost invisible barrier against water and oxygen. Its low surface tension and high capillary action help the product penetrate fine pores, cracks, and corroded joints. It can thus protect during storage, counteract squeaking sounds, and help loosen rusted or seized parts.
CRC 6-66 is suitable for all metals and alloys and is compatible with most painted surfaces, coatings, plastics, and rubbers. For critical materials, compatibility should first be tested on an inconspicuous area. The product can be used after washing or rinsing engines and equipment, where it displaces remaining moisture and helps prevent moisture-related electrical faults.
Apply a light and even film to the metal surface. For rusted or seized parts, apply the product generously and allow time to penetrate; full penetration may take several hours. For moisture displacement, treat the wet surface until the runoff appears clear and free of moisture. The product can also be used in a dip bath, which should be stirred occasionally and protected against excessive evaporation.
The liquid is clear and blue-green with a relative density of 0.83 at 20 °C. After approximately 24 hours of spreading at 20 °C, the final film thickness is about 2 µm, and the maximum expected coverage is 100 m²/l. The solvent evaporation time in a thin film is 2-4 hours at 20 °C. The film withstands up to 120 °C continuously and 150 °C for short periods.
The product must not be used on live equipment and must be used in a well-ventilated area. Before painting or other subsequent surface treatment, the protective film must be removed with a suitable solvent-based cleaner or by alkaline degreasing. The duration of protection depends on the condition of the surface and the environment, and the initial treatment should therefore be checked regularly to determine a suitable re-treatment interval.
