This Dometic SkyScreen Roller Surface 2 blackout blind with fly screen is a surface-mounted combination solution for Lewmar 70 hatches with an internal clearance of 627 × 627 mm. The white blackout blind and fly screen are integrated into a single low-profile unit that is mounted onto the cabin's interior lining.
The blind provides 100% blackout, while the fly screen allows for ventilation and helps keep insects out. The blind and screen can be pulled across the entire opening or magnetically coupled in any chosen position, for example, to have the opening partially darkened and partially covered by the screen. Brush strips along the rails also reduce the risk of insect intrusion.
The unit features an extruded, UV-stable PVC frame with rounded and covered corners. The blind fabric has a three-layer construction with approximately 80% heat reflection as well as water and UV-resistant properties. The frame, blind fabric, and fly screen are white. The profile depth without liners or seals is approximately 28.5 mm, the upper cassette profile is approximately 60 mm, and the side rails are 40 mm wide.
The system is designed for surface mounting and is suitable for retrofitting, including on boats with thin decks as well as soft or missing headliners. The unit is assembled from two cassettes and two side rails, which click together at the corners and are then secured with four corner screws under integrated screw covers. No. 6 × 16 mm pan head screws are recommended, which are not included. For soft headliners, M4 plastic washers can be used as spacers; these are also not included.
The mounting surface must be clean, grease-free, level, and sufficiently solid for screw mounting. The unit must not be twisted or forced out of alignment during installation, as this may affect the function of the blind. Due to the size, installation by at least two people is recommended. Manual tightening is recommended over using an electric screwdriver.
The blind and screen mechanism is assembled, spring-tensioned, and function-tested before delivery. If the tension needs to be corrected later, the rollers can be adjusted via the tensioner under the top right screw cover. Clockwise increases the tension, and counter-clockwise reduces it; normally, no more than eight full turns should be necessary. A flexible white PVC finishing trim can be purchased separately as item no. 19.809.05 in 2.5 m or 19.809.20 in 20 m. Spare handles for Surface and Recessed SkyScreen post-2012 are available as item no. 19.899.01.
