The Garmin GPSMAP 8417 MFD is the large 17" glass-bridge display solution for boat owners, sailors, and professional users who want to consolidate their entire boat system onto one elegant helm screen. The large Full HD (1920 × 1200 px) IPS touchscreen provides an extremely sharp view of charts, radar, sonar, cameras, engine, and system data – perfect for flybridges, wheelhouses, and advanced instrument panels.
As a pure MFD (Multi Function Display), the GPSMAP 8417 has no built-in GPS receiver or sonar, and is instead designed to serve as a central display in a networked Garmin marine system. Position, sonar, wind, engine information, etc., are retrieved via NMEA 2000®, NMEA 0183, Garmin Marine Network and J1939, allowing you to freely place antennas, black box sonar, and other components wherever it is most convenient on board.
The screen is optimized for glass-bridge installation, where multiple screens can be flush-mounted side-by-side for a clean, modern look. You also get full support for Garmin SmartMode™, allowing you to switch the entire layout (navigation, docking, fishing, night, etc.) with a single touch and automatically display the right data across all screens.
The GPSMAP 8417 MFD supports the same charts as other high-end Garmin plotters: Garmin Navionics+™ and Garmin Navionics Vision+™, BlueChart g3, LakeVü g3, TOPO, etc. (via an external Garmin SD card reader). With the Garmin Marine Network, you can share charts, radar, sonar images, camera, and video sources between multiple screens on the boat – ideal for larger motorboats and sailboats.
Via Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, and ANT®, the device can be integrated with the ActiveCaptain® app, quatix® watches, gWind™ wind transducers, GNX™ instruments, and wireless remote controls. Along with OneHelm™, you can even control digital switches and third-party systems (e.g., EmpirBus™) directly from the screen – making the GPSMAP 8417 MFD the natural main controller for the entire boat's electrical and navigation system.
