This Garmin Spectra LC102 LED control module is a compact, 1-channel module for controlling decorative onboard LED lighting. The module connects to the boat’s NMEA 2000 network and can control dimmable RGB, RGBW, CRGBW, and single-channel LED light sources. The single LED output can be loaded with up to 2 A.
Brightness, colors, effects, groups, and light scenes can be operated from a compatible Garmin chartplotter or MFD. Initial configuration and subsequent control can also be performed via the ActiveCaptain app on a compatible smartphone. Select features can be operated from a compatible Fusion Apollo stereo, and audio sync makes it possible to synchronize color blending or light effects with the music in an associated audio zone.
The LC102 can be integrated with LED lighting in, among other things, speakers, subwoofers, wake tower speakers, LED strips, underwater lights, courtesy lights, and illuminated cup holders, provided that voltage, connection, and power requirements are met. The module is compatible with, among others, the Garmin GPSMAP 9000, GPSMAP 8600, GPSMAP x3, ECHOMAP Ultra 2, and ECHOMAP UHD2 series, as well as the Fusion Apollo RA770, RA670, and WB675. The relevant devices must be connected to the same NMEA 2000 network.
The module is used in a 12 or 24 V DC system. The permissible voltage range is 10.8–16.0 V DC at 12 V and 21.6–32.0 V DC at 24 V. The power supply voltage must match the voltage of the connected LED light sources, and 12 V and 24 V components must not be mixed. The LC102 has overvoltage and overcurrent protection and requires an external slow-blow 2 A fuse close to the power source. The NMEA 2000 LEN is 2 with a maximum consumption of 70 mA, but the module's main supply must be connected separately.
The enclosure measures 113 × 52 × 47 mm and weighs 83 g. The IP67 rating protects against dust ingress and accidental submersion in up to 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes. The operating temperature is 0 to 50 °C, the storage temperature is −20 to 70 °C, and the compass-safe distance is 20 cm.
The module is mounted on a flat, vertical surface with the connector ports facing downward. The mounting location must be accessible, protected from permanent submersion, and located away from fuel tanks, flammable vapors, and strong electromagnetic noise sources. The included pan-head screws must be used; countersunk screws can damage the housing. A 2 mm drill bit is recommended for pilot holes.
For the power supply, 16 AWG/1.3 mm² tinned marine wire is used, while the LED connection uses 20 AWG/0.5 mm² tinned marine wire. With 16 AWG, the power wire for the LC102 can be extended up to 7.5 m at 12 V and up to 15 m at 24 V. Exposed connections must be protected with marine-grade waterproof connectors or waterproof heat-shrink tubing. LED and speaker wires should not be routed together, as this can create interference.
The package contains the LC102 module, power flying lead with a water-resistant three-pin connector, one LED flying lead with a water-resistant six-pin connector, NMEA 2000 T-connector, 0.3 m NMEA 2000 cable, mounting screws, and documentation. LED light sources and an external fuse are not included. Original connection parts include power cable 010-13286-01, LED cable 010-13286-02, and six-pin marine LED cable 010-13386-00.
A normally open momentary switch can be connected for local on/off operation without a chartplotter, stereo, or app. When the light is turned on again, the most recently used light configuration is restored. The product is intended exclusively for LED lighting and must not be used for navigation lights, non-LED light sources, or other electrical appliances.
