This Hammar MA1 rearming kit for automatic inflatable lifejackets consists of a 38 g CO₂ cylinder and a hydrostatic Hammar MA1 inflator. The variant is intended for automatic 180 N lifejackets with the relevant MA1 configuration.
The MA1 system is automatically activated when the inflator is submerged and exposed to water pressure equivalent to approximately 10 cm of water. The hydrostatic function requires both water and sufficient pressure, which reduces the risk of accidental activation due to rain, spray, waves, or high humidity. The lifejacket can also be triggered manually via the pull toggle.
The status indicator shows green when the inflator is ready for use. After automatic or manual activation, the indicator changes to red, and the inflator must be replaced. The MA1 cap must also be replaced by the printed five-year expiry date. The proven temperature range for the inflation system is −30 °C to +65 °C.
In the MA1 system, the CO₂ cylinder is located inside the inflatable lifejacket bladder, where it is protected from atmospheric and saltwater corrosion. The cylinder is permanently attached to the piercing unit so that it cannot unscrew itself. The MA1 cap is yellow, made of PBT, and has a stainless steel spring. The cap measures Ø52 × 23 mm and weighs 46 g; these measurements apply only to the inflator cap and not the entire rearming kit.
The kit is directly compatible with the Sail Pro 180 N lifejacket, item no. 22.394.00. The designation universal does not mean that the kit fits all inflatable lifejackets. Always check cylinder size, inflation system, pull cord, and the lifejacket's approved configuration before purchase and installation.
After reassembly, the lifejacket should be inflated through the oral tube and left inflated overnight to check for leaks. Before repacking, the vest must be dry, and all residual air must be pressed out. The complete lifejacket must continue to be inspected according to the lifejacket manufacturer's instructions.
