This Guidi Ionio 1164 seawater filter in nickel-plated bronze with a polycarbonate lid is the 3″ variant for filtering intake water in maritime cooling and water circuits. The filter can be used for, among other things, engine heat exchangers, generators, air conditioning systems, and cooling circuits for electric motors and batteries.
The bowl-shaped construction features an inlet at the bottom and an outlet on the side, guiding the water flow 90° through the filter. Both connections have 3″ internal, parallel G-threads according to ISO 228/1, also known as BSPP and BS 2779. The design is suitable for installations where the water flow needs to change from vertical to horizontal.
The filter housing is made of nickel-plated bronze and is equipped with a transparent polycarbonate lid, allowing for inspection of the filter's internal condition without opening the housing. The removable filter element is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, and the seals are made of neoprene. The design is patented under patent no. 53660B/82.
The product measures 255 mm in total length and 276 mm in total height. The H1 dimension is 177 mm, L1 is 129 mm, the bracket dimension A is 80 mm, and the bracket hole dimension d is Ø11 mm. The net weight is 9.6 kg. With a clean filter, the water capacity is 58,400 l/hour at a 0.1 bar pressure drop and 184,000 l/hour at a 1 bar pressure drop.
The filter is covered by RINA DIP and Lloyd’s Register certifications, as well as the ISO 228/1 thread standard. It is intended for water and must not be used as a pre-filter for diesel, gasoline, or other flammable liquids. It is also not approved for fire extinguishing systems.
During installation, ensure sufficient space is provided to remove and service the filter basket. The seacock must be closed and the engine stopped before opening the filter. The basket should be checked regularly and can be cleaned with water and compressed air. Gaskets and O-rings must be checked for damage, and the lid must be properly tightened before opening the seacock again. The use of bronze components throughout the seawater circuit is recommended to minimize galvanic corrosion issues.
