GUIDI Ionio seawater filter in nickel-plated bronze with polycarbonate lid is a 2" raw water filter for filtering incoming cooling water before engine heat exchangers, generators, air conditioning systems, electric motors, and battery cooling systems. The Ionio design directs water in through the bottom and out through the side, allowing the filter to be used where the water flow needs to change direction from bottom to side.
The filter housing is made of nickel-plated bronze and equipped with a transparent, impact-resistant polycarbonate lid, which allows for inspection of the filter basket without first opening the housing. The filter element is made of corrosion-resistant AISI 316L stainless steel, while the lid is sealed with a saltwater-resistant neoprene O-ring. The filter mesh size is 0.9 mm. The construction is based on the patented Ionio principle and is designed to limit pressure loss, air bubbles, and cavitation in the cooling water circuit.
The connections have G 2" cylindrical BSPP pipe threads according to ISO 228/1 and are located on the bottom and the side, respectively. The filter measures 213 mm in length and 215 mm in height, with an H1 dimension of 135 mm. The flow rate is 30,000 l/hour at 0.1 bar pressure loss and 96,200 l/hour at 1 bar pressure loss. The maximum permitted pressure is 5 bar.
The filter can be mounted on a bulkhead or bracket via the side support and must be positioned to allow sufficient space for removing the filter basket. The flow direction must follow the arrows on the filter housing, and installation above the waterline acts as a passive safety measure. After mounting, the housing must be connected to the vessel's equipotential bonding system to protect the filter basket from galvanic currents. A through-hull bronze installation from the seawater intake simultaneously reduces the risk of galvanic corrosion.
The recommended tightening torque for the lid is approximately 9 Nm. Before opening the filter, the engine must be stopped and the seacocks must be closed. The basket should be checked regularly and can be cleaned with water and compressed air. After the first hours of operation, it should be inspected for debris from new pipes and the installation. The lid must be correctly closed before the seacocks are reopened. The O-ring should be replaced along with the polycarbonate lid. The filter is intended for water and must not be used as a pre-filter for fuel.
Model 1164 is covered by RINA Statement 2021/CS/01/4256-001 and Lloyd’s Register approval LR2556185TA-01. The product is intended for integration into the vessel's installation and is not independently CE marked. The approval does not cover use for firefighting or flammable media.

The documented replacement filter basket has item no. 17.646.03 and measures D 124 mm, D1 64 mm, and H 160 mm. A complete basket set is available as GUIDI KIT1164.000009, NBR U-profile as KIT1164GU009, polycarbonate lid as KIT1162DI010, and bronze ring as KIT1162AN010. Furthermore, a venting kit KIT1162SDI.010 and an alternative HDPE filter insert KIT51164CEP009 are available for this 2" variant.
