This Guidi Ionio seawater filter in nickel-plated bronze with a transparent polycarbonate lid is a 2½" variant for filtering intake water in marine installations. The filter retains impurities before the water is directed to, for example, the engine cooling system, heat exchangers, generators, or air conditioning units.
The filter housing is manufactured from nickel-plated bronze, while the transparent polycarbonate lid allows for checking the filter condition without first opening the housing. The internal filter element is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, and the seals are made of neoprene.
The cup design has one connection at the bottom and one on the side. Water is routed through the filter in a 90° flow path from the bottom connection to the side outlet. Both connections have 2½" internal BSPP threads according to ISO 228-1 / BS 2779.
The filter measures 252 mm in length and 243 mm in height. The other dimensions from the dimension drawing are L1 126 mm, H1 150 mm, and A 60 mm, while the mounting holes have a diameter of 11 mm. The net weight is 9.0 kg.
With a clean filter element, the flow capacity is 42,600 l/hour at 0.1 bar pressure drop and 134,000 l/hour at 1 bar pressure drop. The values describe the flow at the specified pressure drops and are not the filter's maximum working pressure.
The bronze version is RINA DIP type-approved and approved by Lloyd’s Register. The product-specific technical material specifies RINA DIP certificate 6061/1. The construction is patented. The filter is not suitable as a pre-filter for diesel or gasoline. In bronze installations, the water intake, valve, fittings, and through-hull should also be selected in bronze to reduce the risk of galvanic corrosion between different metals.
