This Guidi Mediterraneo nickel-plated bronze cooling water filter with polycarbonate lid is model 1162 with G 1 1/4" BSPP connections. The filter is mounted in the engine's water intake or suction line and retains impurities before the seawater is passed on to the engine's cooling system, heat exchangers, generators, or marine air conditioning systems.
The filter housing is made of nickel-plated bronze and features an internal filter basket made of 316L stainless steel. The transparent lid made of impact-resistant Lexan polycarbonate allows for checking the condition of the filter basket without opening the housing. The lid is sealed with a neoprene O-ring and secured with hex screws; the recommended tightening torque for this size is approx. 6 Nm.
The water flow is straight through from side to side. The rounded base is designed to reduce pressure loss, air bubbles, and cavitation. With a clean filter, the flow rate is 8,800 l/h at 0.1 bar pressure loss and 27,700 l/h at 1 bar pressure loss. The mesh size is 0.9 mm.
The filter measures 184 mm in length and 176 mm in height, while the H1 dimension is 122 mm. The outer diameter is 150 mm, the L1 dimension is 83 mm, and the mounting holes are Ø6.5 mm. The filter basket measures Ø98 × 148 mm with an H1 dimension of 95 mm.
The filter must be mounted horizontally, secured at the mounting points, and installed in the specified flow direction. There must be sufficient free space above the filter for removal and cleaning of the basket. Potential equalization is recommended to reduce the risk of galvanic corrosion, and installation above the waterline is recommended for safety reasons. Using bronze in the other intake components helps to avoid inappropriate mixing of metals.
The filter basket must be checked and cleaned regularly with water and, if necessary, compressed air. The engine must be stopped and the water intake valves must be closed before opening the filter. The housing can be drained through the drain plug when the boat is on land. The product must not be used as a pre-filter for diesel or gasoline.
The filter is patented and classified with RINA DIP as well as Lloyd’s Register. The manufacturer number is 1162.220007. Compatible spare parts include filter basket item no. 17.645.02 and Guidi KIT1162CE007, bronze ring KIT1162AN007, polycarbonate disc KIT1162DI007, and drain plug KIT1281T002.
