This GUIDI Mediterraneo nickel-plated bronze cooling water filter with a transparent polycarbonate lid is a 3" basket filter for filtering raw water or seawater in marine cooling water installations. The filter is mounted on the engine's water intake so that impurities are retained before the cooling water is passed on to the heat exchanger.
The filter housing is made of nickel-plated bronze and features a transparent polycarbonate lid, which allows for the inspection of the filter basket condition without first opening the housing. The patented Mediterraneo design features a rounded bottom and a straight-through flow from side to side. This design reduces pressure loss at the outlet and prevents air bubbles and cavitation.
The removable filter basket is made of AISI 316L stainless steel. The filter has neoprene O-rings under the lid and at the drain plug. The product dimensions are L 309 mm and H 292 mm, while H1 is 205 mm. The supplementary drawing dimensions are L1 131 mm, A 225 mm, and d 8.5 mm.
The connection is G 3" with cylindrical BSPP pipe threads according to ISO 228-1 / BS 2779. With a clean filter, the water flow is 50,000 l/h at 0.1 bar pressure loss and 166,730 l/h at 1 bar pressure loss. The values indicate flow at the specified pressure loss and are not the filter's permissible working or maximum pressure.
The filter must be mounted horizontally with the mounting points facing downwards, and the marked flow direction must be followed. Mounting above the waterline is recommended, and there must be sufficient space to remove the filter basket for service. The filter housing must be connected to the vessel's ground or bonding system to prevent galvanic corrosion. The recommended tightening torque for the lid is approx. 9 Nm.
The GUIDI Mediterraneo 1162 can be used in cooling water circuits for combustion engines, generators, electric motors, battery cooling, and air conditioning systems. The filter must not be used as a pre-filter for diesel or gasoline. The series is approved under RINA DIP and holds Lloyd’s Register type approval.
The filter basket should be checked regularly and can be cleaned with water and compressed air. Before opening, the engine must be stopped, the seacocks closed, and the installation made safe. O-rings and gaskets should be checked during service and replaced if their condition is questionable. A documented spare basket for this 3" variant has item no. 17.645.06 and manufacturer code KIT1162CE011.
