Guidi Mediterraneo seawater filter in nickel-plated bronze with polycarbonate lid is a 2" basket filter for marine raw water and cooling water systems. The filter is installed on the raw water intake to retain impurities before the water is directed to components such as the engine heat exchanger, generator, or marine air conditioning system.
Model 1162 features straight side-to-side flow. The rounded filter housing is designed to minimize pressure loss, air bubbles, and cavitation, and to support smooth water flow. With a clean filter, the flow rate is 19,900 l/h at 0.1 bar pressure loss and 63,000 l/h at 1 bar pressure loss.
The filter housing is made of nickel-plated bronze, while the transparent lid is made of polycarbonate. The clear lid allows for checking the condition of the filter basket without having to open the housing first. The removable filter basket is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, and the standard construction uses neoprene O-rings. The lid is secured with a metal ring and screws.
The 2" variant has a length of 242 mm and a height of 216 mm. The H1 dimension is 149 mm, the L1 dimension is 104 mm, and the housing/flange diameter A is 180 mm. The three mounting points are positioned at 120° intervals and have a hole diameter of 8.5 mm. The net weight is 7.8 kg.
The connection is a cylindrical 2" G-thread according to ISO 228/1 and BSPP. The filter must be mounted securely and horizontally with the water flow in the marked direction. Installation above the waterline is recommended, and the location must provide sufficient space for removing and servicing the filter basket. The filter must be connected to the vessel's grounding or equipotential bonding system to reduce galvanic corrosion.
The filter basket can be cleaned with water and compressed air. Seacocks must be closed before opening or maintenance, and the lid must be properly locked before reopening the valves. The recommended tightening torque for this size is approximately 9 Nm. The drain plug can be used for emptying when the valves are closed and the boat is on land. The filter must not be used as a pre-filter for diesel or gasoline.
The design is covered by RINA DIP type approval and Lloyd’s Register and has threads according to ISO 228/1. The manufacturer's part number is 1162.220009.
