This Guidi Mediterraneo seawater filter with polycarbonate lid is model 1162 with 1/2" G-thread for filtering seawater and other intake water. The filter is installed in the intake line and protects, among other things, engine cooling systems, heat exchangers, generators, electric motors, battery cooling circuits, and air conditioning systems from impurities in the water.
The Mediterraneo design features a straight-through, side-to-side water flow. The rounded bottom section is designed to reduce pressure loss, optimize flow, and limit air bubbles and cavitation. At a pressure drop of 0.1 bar, the flow is 2,400 l/hour, while the flow at 1 bar pressure drop is 7,500 l/hour. The maximum pressure is 6 bar.
The housing is made of nickel-plated bronze and has a transparent lid made of impact-resistant polycarbonate, allowing the condition of the filter basket to be checked without opening the filter. The filter basket is made of 316L stainless steel and has a filter aperture of 0.9 mm. The basket measures Ø57 × 64 mm. The lid and drain plug are sealed with neoprene O-rings, and the drain plug allows residual water to be drained when the seacocks are closed or the boat is hauled out.
The filter measures 122 mm in length and 117 mm in height, while the H1 dimension is 82 mm. The dimension drawing also specifies A = Ø94 mm, L1 = 53 mm, and a mounting hole of Ø5 mm. The connections have parallel 1/2" G-threads according to ISO 228/1, also referred to as BSPP.
The filter must be mounted horizontally on the mounting feet, and the water flow must follow the marked arrows. The position must provide sufficient space to remove the filter basket for service. Installation above the waterline is recommended as a safety measure, and electrical earthing/equipotential bonding is recommended to prevent galvanic corrosion. The indicative tightening torque for this size is approximately 4 Nm.
The basket should be checked regularly for fouling, plastic, and other impurities and can be cleaned with water and compressed air. Always close the seacocks before opening, check gaskets and O-rings, and ensure the lid is correctly closed before opening the valves again. The filter is not intended as a fuel filter or pre-filter in diesel and petrol circuits.

The filter is covered by RINA declaration 11/447/88 DIP and RINA Statement 2021/CS/01/4256-001. The Mediterraneo model 1162 is also covered by Lloyd’s Register approval LR2556185TA-01. The product is intended for integration into on-board installations and does not require independent CE marking.
