This Guidi Mediterraneo seawater filter with polycarbonate lid is model 1162 in the 1" variant. The filter protects engine heat exchangers, generators, marine air conditioning systems, and other cooling water circuits by retaining impurities in the intake seawater.
The filter housing is made of nickel-plated bronze and features a transparent Lexan polycarbonate lid. The transparent lid allows for inspection of the filter basket's condition without first opening the housing. The internal filter basket is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, while the gaskets and O-rings are made of neoprene.
The inlet and outlet are positioned directly opposite each other, allowing water to pass straight through the filter. The rounded bottom part of the housing is designed to optimize flow, limit air bubbles, and reduce pressure drop and the risk of cavitation. A drain hole with a bronze plug and neoprene O-ring allows residual water to be drained when the seacocks are closed or the boat is hauled out.
The connection is a 1" parallel BSP pipe thread according to ISO 228/1 and BS 2779 BSPP. Hose tails are not included. The flow through a clean filter is 5,700 l/h at 0.1 bar differential pressure and 17,900 l/h at 1 bar. The maximum pressure is 6 bar, and the recommended tightening torque for this size is approx. 6 Nm.
The filter measures 169 mm in length and 151 mm in height. The H1 dimension is 106 mm, L1 is 77 mm, and the A dimension is 135 mm. It is mounted horizontally on a stable surface via three mounting feet with Ø 6.5 mm holes spaced at 120° intervals. The flow direction must follow the arrows on the housing, and there must be free space to remove the filter basket during service.
Installation above the waterline is recommended as a passive safety measure. The filter must be grounded after installation to limit galvanic corrosion of the filter basket. Before opening, the engine must be stopped and the seacocks closed. The filter basket must be checked and cleaned regularly, and the lid must be correctly closed before the seacocks are reopened. The product must not be used as a pre-filter in diesel or gasoline systems.
The Mediterraneo 1162 is a patented design with RINA DIP and Lloyd’s Register documentation. The version with a polycarbonate lid is intended for recreational vessels and privately used RINA-classified vessels under 300 GT. The filter is intended for integration into an installation and is not subject to independent CE marking according to Directive 2013/53/EU.
Documented spare parts for this 1" variant include vent kit KIT1162SDI.006, bronze ring KIT1162AN006, filter basket KIT1162CE006, transparent cover disc KIT1162DI006, and drain plug KIT1281T002. The design can be disassembled so that individual components can be replaced.
