This GUIDI Mediterraneo raw water strainer for engine cooling with polycarbonate lid is model 1162 with G 3/8" connections. The strainer is installed on the raw water intake and protects the engine's heat exchanger or other water-cooled systems from impurities in the incoming raw water.
The water passes straight through the strainer from side to side. The rounded bottom is designed to limit pressure loss, air bubbles, and cavitation at the outlet. With a clean filter basket, the flow rate is 1,400 l/h at 0.1 bar differential pressure and 4,300 l/h at 1 bar differential pressure. The maximum pressure for this size is 6 bar.
The transparent polycarbonate lid allows for visual inspection of the filter basket without first opening the strainer. The replaceable filter basket is made of AISI 316L stainless steel, while the O-rings for the lid and drain plug are made of neoprene. The housing has a nickel-plated finish. The drain plug allows for the drainage of residual water when the seacocks are closed or the boat is hauled out.
The strainer features G 3/8" internal, parallel BSPP pipe threads according to ISO 228-1 / BS 2779. The length is 122 mm, the height is 117 mm, and the H1 dimension is 82 mm. Other drawing dimensions are L1 53 mm and A 94 mm. Three mounting lugs spaced at 120° intervals have Ø5 mm mounting holes. A separately indicated total/plate dimension is 140 mm height × Ø110 mm.
The strainer must be mounted horizontally and securely with enough clearance to remove the filter basket for service. Follow the marked flow direction, connect the strainer to the boat's bonding system, and if possible, position it above the waterline. The recommended tightening torque for the lid screws for this size is approximately 4 Nm. The strainer size should be selected based on the system's threads, required flow, and permissible pressure loss, and should not be oversized.
The strainer can be used for raw water cooling of engines, generators, air conditioning units, and other water-cooled installations on board. It is not intended as a pre-filter for diesel or petrol circuits. The filter basket should be checked and cleaned regularly, and on new installations, it should be checked after a few hours of operation for debris from pipes and hoses. Always close the seacocks before service and ensure that the lid is correctly closed and tightened before opening the valves again.
Model 1162 is covered by RINA reference 11/447/88 DIP, RINA Statement no. 2021/CS/01/4256-001, and Lloyd’s Register LR2556185TA-01. The product is intended for integration into the boat's installation and is not subject to independent CE marking under Directive 2013/53/EU.
