This Heater Craft hydronic boat heater is a 12 V model with two ducted air outlets and a nominal heat output of 28,000 BTU/h. It is designed to heat the cabin and living areas by transferring heat from the engine's cooling water to the air, which the fan distributes through the air hoses.
The nominal heat output of 28,000 BTU/h is specified at a water flow of 11 l/min, a water temperature of 76 °C, and an ambient temperature of 15 °C. The actual heat output therefore depends on the cooling water temperature and flow, as well as the ambient temperature.
The heating unit can be placed centrally in a suitable mounting location. Two Ø75 mm air hoses carry the heated air to separate, adjustable outlets, which are mounted on a bulkhead or other suitable surface. The kit includes the heater unit, a four-position panel switch, mounting brackets, 3.60 m of air hose, two adjustable air outlets, an electrical cable, and mounting screws.
The electric fan has three speeds. Power consumption is 3.9 A at low speed, 5.0 A at medium speed, and 7.7 A at high speed. The included panel switch has four positions for off as well as the three fan settings.
The heat exchanger core should be mounted horizontally whenever possible, and the unit must not be placed in the bilge or a compartment where it can draw air from the bilge area. Air and cooling water hoses must be routed without kinks and protected against sharp edges, hot surfaces, and moving parts. The cooling water can flow through the heat exchanger in both directions, as the core's two ports are not directional. With a closed cooling system, placement below the level of the radiator cap is recommended; higher mounting may require bleeding or an additional circulation pump.
After installation, all three fan settings must be tested, the air outlets checked for obstructions, and the cooling water system checked for leaks. For raw-water cooled systems, the heater and hoses must be drained before freezing; the heat exchanger must not be blown out with more than 35 psi. Documented Ø75 mm accessories include Y-piece item no. 50.263.06, adjustable air outlet item no. 50.263.08, and 12 m flexible air hose item no. 50.263.11.
