This inline gas leak tester for LPG installations is a permanent, manually operated leak tester for marine gas systems using butane or propane. It is installed in the gas line after the pressure regulator and allows for checking the installation, connections, and connected gas appliances for leaks.
The tester uses a transparent sight glass with glycol-based test fluid. During normal operation, gas passes through the unit unimpeded. When the red test button is held down, the normal gas flow is shut off, and any leak becomes visible as bubbles in the fluid. The function is entirely mechanical and requires no power supply, electronic sensor, or alarm.
The unit is designed for low and medium-pressure LPG installations with a maximum operating pressure of 2.0 bar. The pressure drop is less than 1 mbar. The connection is intended for 8 mm copper tubing or rubber hose via Ø8 mm hose nipples. For tubing installations, a nut, cutting ring, and support sleeve are used, and the marked flow direction must always be followed.
The marine version features a blue anti-corrosion coating for humid and saline environments. The construction consists of brass, zinc, and steel. The product measures 93 mm in height, 85 mm in width, and 30 mm in depth, and has a net weight of 0.19 kg.
The tester must be mounted vertically as close to the pressure regulator as practically possible, preferably in the gas cylinder compartment. The sight glass must be visible and easily accessible, while the unit is protected from water and UV light. The inlet is the bottom gas connection. After installation, the gas tightness of the entire LPG system must be checked.
For a leak test, turn off all gas-consuming appliances, then hold the test button fully down for at least 10 seconds. Wait at least one minute for the first bubble. Visible bubbles indicate a leak, and the gas system must not be used until the fault has been found and remedied. The level of the glycol fluid should be checked regularly and refilled to the upper level mark with suitable leak testing fluid.
The delivery includes test fluid, mounting screws, support sleeves for tubing, and two Ø8 mm hose nipples. Installation and work on LPG systems should be carried out in accordance with current regulations and the relevant installation instructions.
