This Isotherm cooling unit kit with evaporator in the Compact VE150 series is a complete, air-cooled system for creating a refrigerator compartment in a custom-built or existing, well-insulated cool box. The kit operates on 12/24 V DC and is dimensioned for a cooling volume of up to 150 liters.
The system consists of a separate compressor/condenser unit with a SECOP BD35F compressor and a ventilated finned evaporator in a compact, white plastic housing. The integrated fan circulates air through the refrigerator compartment, while the mechanical thermostat allows for regulation on steps 0-7. Step 7 provides the most powerful cooling, while step 0 stops refrigeration.
The measured energy consumption is 380 Wh per 24 hours at an ambient temperature of 25 °C and a temperature of 5 °C in the cool box. The electronic battery protection cuts off the cooling unit if the voltage drops below 10.4 V during 12 V operation or 22.8 V during 24 V operation. Electronic polarity protection also protects the system in the event of incorrect connection.
The compressor and evaporator unit are connected by an approx. 2 m long, factory-filled refrigerant hose with self-sealing quick-connect couplings. The couplings make it possible to assemble the units without normal loss of refrigerant. Installation requires a Ø 30 mm opening, and excess hose must be positioned with a bending radius of at least 10 cm. The hose must not be shortened, kinked, or pinched.
The compressor unit must be mounted horizontally in a dry and ventilated place, protected from water splashes and direct heat sources. It can withstand a continuous tilt of up to 30°. The evaporator is mounted vertically and at the top of the refrigerator compartment. When installed in an enclosed space, an upper and a lower ventilation opening of Ø 8 cm is recommended. The recommended insulation thickness is 30 mm for refrigerator compartments up to 100 liters and 50 mm for refrigerator compartments over 100 and up to 150 liters.
The electrical installation should be carried out with a battery of at least 75 Ah and a fuse of at least 15 A at 12 V or 7.5 A at 24 V. Recommended minimum cable cross-section is 2.5 mm² up to 2.5 m at 12 V or 5 m at 24 V, 4 mm² at 2.5-4 m or 5-8 m respectively, and 6 mm² at 4-6 m or 8-12 m respectively. The power cable should be kept as short as possible.
The cooling circuit uses R134a and is delivered ready for normal installation. Compressor ventilation must be kept clear, and dust on the compressor/condenser unit should be removed regularly. The cooling circuit may only be disconnected at the self-sealing quick-connect couplings.
