Isotherm Smart Energy Control energy management kit for marine refrigeration is a retrofit, microprocessor-based control system for 12/24 V DC compressor-driven refrigerators and cooling systems. The system continuously monitors the air temperature of the cooling compartment and the supply voltage, adjusting the compressor speed to reduce battery consumption.
When the engine is running, or the boat is connected to shore power and a battery charger, the system utilizes the higher charging voltage to further lower the temperature. The stored cold in food and drinks is subsequently utilized during battery operation, reducing the compressor's run time. More efficient compressor operation can provide energy savings of up to 35%, while the combination of compressor control and cold accumulation can reduce energy consumption by up to approximately 50%.
The system supports automatic and manual operation as well as refrigerator and freezer modes. In refrigerator mode, the manual temperature can be regulated from approximately +10 to +1 °C. The automatic energy-saving temperature can be set to +3, +4, +5, or +6 °C, while the standard temperature for cold accumulation is +1 °C. In freezer mode, the manual regulation can be set from approximately −1 to −24 °C, depending on the capacity of the cooling system, and the automatic energy-saving temperature can be configured to −8, −10, −14, or −16 °C.
Configurable battery protection shuts down the system at either 9.6 or 10.8 V on a 12 V system and at either 21.3 or 23.6 V on a 24 V system. Cold accumulation can be activated at a selected voltage threshold of 12.7 or 13.2 V for 12 V operation and 24.7 or 25.2 V for 24 V operation. The recommended supply fuse is 15 A at 12 V DC and 7.5 A at 24 V DC.
The kit is intended for refrigerators and cooling units with the Secop 101N0212 electronic unit. Isotherm CR49 SS CT, CR65 SS CT, CR85 SS CT, and CR130 SS CT are pre-prepared for the system. The kit is not suitable for the CR42 refrigerator version; therefore, always check the specific refrigerator model and electronic unit before installation.
The delivery includes an SEC controller, temperature control potentiometer with knob, connection and temperature data cable, sensor holder with grille, holder for potentiometer, temperature sensor, data plug, cables for a possible internal light, sealant, and aluminum tape. The controller measures 109 × 51 × 28 mm, the sensor holder 130 × 32 × 9 mm, and the temperature regulator 82 × 76 × 62 mm. The connection cable to the controller is approximately 1,500 mm, the temperature sensor cable approximately 1,950 mm, and the lamp cables approximately 250 mm.
The controller is mounted directly onto the compatible electronic unit, while the sensor is placed inside the cooling compartment as far from the evaporator as possible. The potentiometer can be mounted inside or outside the cabinet, replace an existing mechanical thermostat, or be mounted in the included housing. The feed-through holes are Ø13 mm for the control cable and Ø7 mm for the temperature sensor. Installation must be performed by qualified personnel with all voltage sources disconnected, and the location must be checked for cooling pipes, evaporator, condenser, and electrical cables before drilling.
