This u-joint bellows is a flexible, corrugated rubber bellows for MerCruiser I Drive 1A, 1B, and 1C. It is installed at the stern drive's universal joint and drive shaft as a replacement for a worn or damaged transmission bellows.
The bellows is designed without an internal rib and corresponds to MerCruiser/Mercury OEM reference 36223A2. The ribless design is an important variant detail, as later MerCruiser drives may use other bellows with a different internal construction.
The product is made of rubber and has a height of 132 mm. The upper opening has a diameter of 110 mm, while the lower opening has a diameter of 113 mm. The dimensions describe the two openings but are not classified as inner or outer diameters.
Compatible drives and models
Direct compatibility includes MerCruiser I Drive 1A, 1B, and 1C. Cross-reference material also specifies 1A/1B/1C with serial numbers 1684188–1777798, as well as 1A/1B/1C with EZ Shift and serial numbers 1776349–2065189.
OEM reference 36223A2 is also associated with early MerCruiser #1 drives without ribs, including the 888 from 1971–1972, 120/140/160/165 from 1967–1972, 215E from 1970–1972, and 215H from 1970. These applications should be verified by the drive model, serial number, and original part number.
OEM and cross-references
The bellows replaces OEM no. 36223A2 as well as the previous numbers 36223 and 36223A1. Documented cross-references include CEF 500522K/500522.K, Sierra 18-2752, GLM 89040, Mallory 9-72700, EMP 61-02185/4-2752, and Pro Marine 64114/2752P.
Always check the engine/drive model, serial number, and original part number before purchase.
