MARCO electronic ship's horn with voice amplifier and automatic fog signal model EW2-M is a complete 12 V sound signal system for pleasure craft as well as fishing and commercial vessels with a length of 12–20 m. The system delivers a sound pressure of over 120 dB at 1 m and operates at a frequency of 690 Hz.
The built-in class AB voice amplifier and the included microphone make it possible to broadcast voice messages through the horn. A separate VHF/AUX input can be used for an external audio signal. Manual activation of the horn has priority over the other functions, including the microphone. This EW2-M variant does not have the additional siren function found on the EW2-MS variants.
The automatic fog signal can be set to an interval of 60 or 90 seconds via DIP switch. The standard signal lasts 5 seconds, and the system supports two automatic fog signals that can be activated separately. Furthermore, a custom sequence can be programmed with up to eight short or long tone pulses. A short tone lasts 2 seconds, while a long tone lasts 5 seconds.
The speaker unit is IP67 rated and has an ultrasound-based heating system for the acoustic membrane. The included mounting bracket is made of mirror-polished stainless steel. The system's stated dimensions are Ø239 × 250 × 260 mm, and the total kit weight is 3.9 kg.
The horn is connected to the electronic control unit with two horn wires. The speaker unit has a fixed 1.0 m cable with tinned conductors and a cross-section of 2 × 1.5 mm². The cable must be connected or extended in a suitable junction box, as the driver unit's sealed cable gland must not be opened or modified. The control panel is connected with an unshielded and fully wired 8-pin RJ45 cable. The horn must be mounted with a slight downward inclination so that water can drain out of the cone.
The delivery includes an electronic horn/speaker unit, electronic control unit, flush-mount membrane control panel, microphone, mounting kit, and stainless steel mounting bracket. An additional control panel with item no. 21.432.00 can be used for operation from an extra steering position. The standard microphone MIC2 with item no. 21.433.36 is a documented related product.
Approvals and standards
The EW2-M is intended for vessels in the length class of 12–20 m and complies with COLREG 1972 as well as IMO Class IV. The product has approvals from RINA, Lloyd’s Register MCA, Bureau Veritas, NMMA, and BSH. The product-specific documentation also includes NMMA ABYC A-23.
