This MARCO electronic horn with megaphone, model EW2-M, is a complete 24 V DC sound signal system for pleasure craft, fishing vessels, and workboats with a length of 12-20 meters. The system delivers a sound pressure of over 120 dB at 1 meter and is RINA type-approved for the specified vessel size.
The EW2-M combines a manual horn tone, automatic fog signal, and voice message transmission. The included microphone is used in conjunction with a class AB amplifier, and the integrated VHF input allows audio from a VHF radio to be routed through the speaker horn. The manual horn tone has priority over other functions, including the microphone.
The automatic fog signal can be set to an interval of 60 or 90 seconds. The standard signal lasts 5 seconds and can be replaced with a custom signal. An ultrasonic heating system supports the function of the acoustic diaphragm under maritime conditions. This EW2-M variant is without the additional siren function found on the EW2-MS models.
The system consists of an electronic speaker horn, an electronic control unit, an SB-UV control panel, a microphone, and a mounting kit. The speaker horn measures 260 × 250 × 239 mm, the control unit 164 × 214 × 87 mm, and the control panel 80 × 80 × 46 mm. The speaker unit and the SB-UV panel are IP67-rated, and the horn comes with a mirror-polished stainless steel bracket.
Installation requires only two wires between the speaker horn and the control unit. The driver unit has a factory-fitted 1.0 m tinned cable with two 1.5 mm² conductors. The cable should not be replaced, and the driver unit should not be opened, as the cable gland is sealed to maintain water tightness. Any extension must be performed using a suitable junction box or terminal box. The horn is mounted with a slight downward tilt so that water can drain from the bell.
The flush-mountable SB-UV panel connects via RJ45 and consolidates control of the horn, fog signal, and auxiliary functions. An additional control panel (item no. 21.432.00) can be used for operation from another steering position. The MIC2 standard microphone (item no. 21.433.36) is documented for the type-approved EW horns.
Approvals and standards
The system is specified according to COLREG 1972 and IMO Class IV. Approvals include RINA, Lloyd’s Register MCA, Bureau Veritas, NMMA, BSH, and NMMA ABYC A-23.
Documented spare parts
