This Marco EW2 electronic ship's horn with voice amplifier and automatic fog signal is the EW2-MS model for 12 V DC. The system is designed for acoustic signaling and voice communication on pleasure and fishing vessels from 12 to 20 meters. The EW2-MS also features a siren function and provides a sound level of over 120 dB at a distance of 1 meter.
The horn has a fundamental frequency of 690 Hz and combines a manual horn signal, automatic fog signal, class AB voice amplifier, microphone, and VHF/aux input. The manual horn signal has priority over the system's other functions. The fog signal can be repeated at 60 or 90-second intervals, and the standard signal lasts 5 seconds. A custom signal with a maximum of eight short and long tones can also be programmed.
The system consists of a horn/speaker unit, electronic control unit, SB-UV control panel, microphone, and mounting kit. The control panel consolidates the operation of the horn, fog signal, and VHF/aux function and connects via an 8-pin RJ45 cable. The microphone gain can be adjusted on the control unit. The acoustic membrane features an ultrasonic heating system, which supports the membrane's function.
The horn module measures 250 × 239 × 260 mm in length, width, and height and is supplied with a mirror-polished stainless steel bracket. The electronic control unit measures 214 × 87 × 164 mm. The SB-UV control panel measures 80 × 80 × 45 mm, requires a 70 mm mounting hole, and can be flush-mounted in a dashboard or cabin panel. The speaker and the associated SB-UV control panel are IP67 rated.
Installation requires only two horn wires between the horn and the control unit. The speaker has a factory-fitted, tinned 1.0 m cable with 2 × 1.5 mm² conductors. The cable must not be replaced, and the sealed driver unit must not be opened. The horn should be mounted with a slight downward tilt so that water does not collect in the horn flare.
The EW2-MS complies with COLREG 1972 and IMO Class IV as well as NMMA ABYC A-23. Approvals include RINA, Lloyd’s Register MCA, Bureau Veritas, NMMA, and BSH.
