Marco PW2 pneumatic horn with compressor in model PW2-BN is a black-painted, type-approved sound signal system for acoustic signaling on leisure and commercial vessels. This variant is intended for 24 V DC and is supplied with an electric M1-W compressor, mounting accessories, and a black protective cover.
The signal horn is intended for vessels from 12 m to under 20 m and complies with COLREG 1972, IMO Class IV. It is RINA type-approved, and the product documentation further indicates approvals from Lloyd’s Register/MCA, Bureau Veritas, BSH, and NMMA, as well as a reference to NMMA ABYC A-23.
The horn emits a sound level of over 120 dB at 1 m with a frequency of 315 Hz. The pneumatic system is powered by the separate 24 V compressor and is designed for intermittent use. The maximum current consumption is 20 A, and the installation must be protected with a correctly sized 20 A fuse. For cable connections to the battery up to 5 m, a cable cross-section of 2.5 mm² is used.
The horn housing is made of brass with a black-painted surface. The PW2-BN measures 438 mm in length, 205 mm in maximum width, and 210 mm in height. The horn aperture is Ø200 mm, and the product weight is 4.9 kg. The system uses an 8/6 mm nylon hose with an 8 mm outer and 6 mm inner diameter.
The horn is mounted with an approximately 5° downward tilt so that water can drain from the horn bell. The compressor can be mounted in any position, but must be secured on a flat surface with M5 screws and the included vibration-damping rubber mounts. The air hose must not be pinched or restricted, and quick-fit connections, O-rings, and compensation springs must be installed correctly to ensure a sealed system.
The red wire is connected to the battery's positive terminal via a series-connected operating switch, while the black wire is connected to the negative terminal. The horn housing is mounted with two M5 fasteners, and the rubber mat can be used as a drilling and mounting template. The permitted ambient temperature is −25 °C to +60 °C at up to 90% relative humidity.
The electrical wires should be checked monthly, and the fuse should be checked first in the event of a malfunction. The motor brushes must be replaced after 1,000 hours of compressor operation. A 24 V spare parts compressor for the PW2 is available as item no. 21.440.99 and as Marco compressor kit R5000034. The protective cover has part no. R5000006.
