This RINA-approved brass signal horn with compressor in the MARCO PW2 series is an electro-pneumatic signal horn for acoustic signaling on vessels in the 12–20 m class. The white 12 V DC variant has a white-painted brass horn and is supplied with an electric compressor and mounting accessories.
The signal horn operates at 315 Hz and delivers a sound level of over 120 dB at a distance of 1 meter. The maximum power consumption is 25 A, and a 25 A fuse is recommended. The system is designed for intermittent use and must not be used for continuous operation.
The horn has a specified length of 460 mm and a bell diameter of Ø200 mm. It is intended for fixed mounting and should be positioned with a downward tilt of approximately 5° so that water does not collect in the horn funnel. The horn is connected to the compressor with an 8/6 mm nylon hose, while the compressor has a push-on connection with an inner diameter of 6 mm.
The included oil-free M1-W compressor operates at 12 V and has a power of 180 W, a maximum pressure of 2 bar, and an air output of 60 l/min. The compressor measures 165 × 117 × 103 mm and weighs 2.4 kg. The housing and rotor are made of aluminum, while the shaft is made of AISI 303 stainless steel. The compressor is mounted on a flat surface with M5 screws and rubber vibration dampers.
The electrical installation is carried out with the control switch in series with the red positive wire, while the black wire is connected to the negative terminal. The circuit, cable gauge, and fuse must be dimensioned according to the power consumption and installation environment. The entire horn system is designed for operation from −25 to +60 °C and at a relative humidity of up to 90 %.
The signal horn meets COLREG 1972 and IMO class IV and has approvals from RINA, Lloyd’s Register MCA, Bureau Veritas, BSH, and NMMA. Documented service parts include the M1-W 12 V compressor R5000033, complete horn without compressor R5000035, diaphragm kit R5000040, protective cap R5000006, and mounting kit R5000022.
