MED-approved lifebuoy in the CAPRI model is a ring-shaped personal lifesaving appliance for vessels subject to relevant MED, SOLAS, LSA, and HSC requirements. The lifebuoy has an inner diameter of 42 cm and an outer diameter of 65.2 cm.
A recessed groove along the circumference allows a separate 30 m throwing line with Ø 8 mm to be coiled around the buoy. This keeps the line organized and ready for use without loose or tangled storage. The compatible floating line with item no. 22.408.06 is sold separately.
The outer shell is made of high-density polyethylene, HDPE, of the type RIGIDEX HD5502S. The buoyancy material of the buoy is EUROPOL RCC 128P, the color is orange, and the fixed grab line around the buoy is made of braided HDPE with a diameter of 10 mm. The nominal product weight is 2.5 kg; the type approval control value is 2.7 ± 0.2 kg.
CAPRI is type-approved as a MED/1.1 lifebuoy under Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU. The RINA EC type-examination certificate MED423524CS, Module B, is valid until 21 October 2029, and production control is covered by Module D certificate MED019425MI/003. The approval includes, among other things, drop tests from 30 m.
The documented test and reference standards include IMO Resolution MSC.81(70), MSC.481(102), SOLAS 74 Regulation III/7 and III/34 as well as IMO Resolution MSC.48(66), LSA Code. The maximum documented installation and release height is 30 m.
The lifebuoy is not intended to activate a quick-release device for self-activating smoke signals and self-igniting lights. The manufacturer's item number is 14.3500.
