This trim tab control panel, Mente Marine ACS R, combines manual operation, position display, and automatic regulation of the boat's transverse trim. The model exclusively regulates the roll axis and is intended for planing boats where crosswinds, course changes, or shifting passenger locations can affect the boat's lateral attitude.
Built-in motion sensors and gyros monitor the boat's movements, meaning no external motion or position sensors are required. The system automatically pauses regulation during sharp turns and at speeds below planing speed. Regulation resumes automatically during acceleration, and the flap type, position, and power consumption are registered during a calibration that can take up to 60 seconds.
The panel features a central AUTO button and four buttons for manual control of trim tabs. LED indicator bars show the estimated position for port and starboard trim tabs after calibration, while a built-in light sensor adjusts the display for day and night sailing. In automatic mode, the desired attitude can be fine-tuned in 0.5° increments, and the setting is retained in memory when the main switch is turned off. The regulation speed can be set in three steps.
The ACS R is compatible with proven hydraulic systems from Bennett, Instatrim, Trimmaster, TFX Teleflex, and TX Controls, as well as electromechanical systems from Lectrotab, Lenco, Eltrim, Ultraflex, Minn Kota, and Bennett Bolt. The panel replaces the existing manual control panel, and existing wiring can usually be reused. The old panel must not remain connected in parallel. Connection diagrams for the different makes are included.
The control panel operates at 10–30 V DC, has a maximum output current of 18 A during trim tab activation, and consumes 0.02 A at idle. The installation is recommended to be protected with a 20 A fuse and at least a 2.5 mm² / 14 AWG supply cable. The enclosure rating is IP68, the operating temperature is –10 to +85 °C, and the storage temperature is –40 to +85 °C.
The panel measures 80 × 77.5 × 10 mm and is mounted with two screws and a central Ø50 mm cutout for plugs and connections. The distance between the centerlines of the mounting holes is 66.5 mm. The panel can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at an angle, but the starboard and port buttons must face the corresponding sides of the boat.
The selection guide specifically recommends the ACS R for planing boats around 19–23 feet, while the technical series range is 15–40 feet. Automatic retraction of trim tabs can reduce fouling on the actuators, and the system switches to low-power mode when not in use. The panel is CE and UKCA marked, covered by the WEEE directive, and comes with a 24-month manufacturer's warranty under the conditions stated in the user manual.
