This Mente Marine ACS trim tab control panel, model ACS RP, combines manual operation, position indication, and automatic control of the boat's roll and pitch. The system regulates both roll across the boat and longitudinal pitch using the trim tabs.
Integrated motion sensors detect changes caused by factors such as wind, heading, and weight distribution on board. The system can automatically correct the boat's attitude and adapts its response to the boat type, trim tab performance, and current conditions. During sharp turns, automatic correction is suspended so it does not counteract the boat's natural heeling. The automatic function is also suspended during transition to planing speed.
The panel features four buttons for manual control, an AUTO button with an indicator, and LED bars that show the calculated position of the port and starboard trim tabs. An integrated light sensor adjusts indicator visibility for day and night use. The desired cruising attitude is saved in memory, and in automatic mode, the setting can be fine-tuned in 0.5° increments. The reaction speed can be set to three levels.
The ACS RP is compatible with proven hydraulic systems from Bennett, Instatrim, Trimmaster, TFX Teleflex, and TX Controls, as well as electromechanical systems from Lectrotab, Lenco, Eltrim, Ultraflex, and Minn Kota. It can be used on planing and semi-planing hulls with shaft drives, sterndrives, IPS, or outboards. Position indication is calculated after calibration, so external position sensors are not required.
The panel replaces the existing standard panel and connects directly to the actuator or hydraulic pump wiring. Existing cables can usually be reused, and wiring diagrams for various trim tab brands are included. The panel measures 80 × 77.5 × 10 mm and requires a central cutout of Ø50 mm. The mounting holes are Ø4.5 mm with 66.5 mm between screw centers. It can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or at an angle in between, but must be oriented correctly towards the boat's port and starboard sides.
The supply range is 10–30 V DC, maximum output current is 18 A during activation, and idle consumption is 0.02 A. A minimum of 2.5 mm² / 14 AWG supply cable and a 20 A fuse must be used. An optional ignition signal can cause the trim tabs to retract when the engine is turned off. The system features automatic calibration, power-saving sleep mode, IP68 rating, and CE approval.
During calibration, trim tab type, position, and power consumption are detected automatically. The process runs the trim tabs all the way up, down, and back up, can take up to 60 seconds, and must not be interrupted. Power must be disconnected before electrical installation, and the automatic function must be disabled before lifting or transporting the boat.
