Personal AIS/DSC MOB emergency transmitter The Ocean Signal rescueME MOB2 is a Class M locating device for man-overboard situations. It transmits the person's position and alarm status to compatible AIS receivers, chartplotters, and VHF radios with DSC, allowing one's own vessel and other equipped vessels in the vicinity to quickly locate the distressed person.
The MOB2 features separate AIS and DSC transceivers with 1 W EIRP transmit power. AIS signals are broadcast on 161.975 and 162.025 MHz, while DSC uses 156.525 MHz on VHF channel 70. The device supports both Open Loop and Closed Loop DSC. In Closed Loop, the alarm is sent first to the programmed vessel MMSI, after which the unit automatically switches to Open Loop if the alarm is not acknowledged within 12 minutes. An All Ships DSC alarm can also be activated manually during operation.
The integrated 66-channel GNSS receiver utilizes GPS and Galileo. The first alarm is sent approximately 15 seconds after activation, and the situational communication range is up to approximately 5 nautical miles. A powerful white strobe and an infrared strobe flash approximately every 2.5 seconds, supporting visual localization in the dark. Color-coded LED signals indicate, among other things, GNSS searching, new position, AIS and DSC transmission, and received DSC acknowledgment.
The unit is designed for mounting in an inflatable lifejacket. The included bracket attaches to the lifejacket's oral inflation tube, while the activation strap is placed around the bladder. When the lifejacket inflates, the activation slide is pulled out, the antenna is released, and the unit starts automatically. Manual activation and backup starting with the ON button are also possible. The product measures 134 × 38 × 27 mm, weighs 92 g, and has a width in the bracket of 57 or 65 mm depending on the bracket's orientation.
The MOB2 is IP68-rated and waterproof to a depth of 10 meters for 1 hour. The operating temperature is −20 °C to +55 °C, and the active operating time is more than 24 hours at −20 °C. The non-rechargeable LB9M battery module consists of two CR123A cells in series, has a nominal voltage of 6.0 V, and a shelf life of 5 years. The battery must be replaced after actual activation or no later than the specified expiry date, and replacement must be performed by an authorized Ocean Signal battery or service center.
The vessel's MMSI, group MMSI, and selection of Open Loop or Closed Loop are configured via NFC and the Ocean Signal Mobile App. The device's fixed AIS/MOB identification begins with 972 and cannot be changed. Regular inspection and cleaning are recommended along with a monthly functional DSC test. AIS/GNSS tests may be performed no more than once a year, and the device is limited to 10 AIS/GNSS tests over the battery's lifespan. It is not intended for general person or property tracking and is not a COSPAS-SARSAT EPIRB or PLB.
Delivery includes the MOB2 unit, Quick Start Guide, oral inflation tube bracket, activation strap, lanyard, antenna winder, attachment buckle, adhesive buckle patch, and protective cover marked ARMED. Fittings Pack 741S-05980 is available as a documented spare parts and mounting kit, while mounting kit 741S-05890 is intended for lifejackets with a welded or sewn-in bladder. The standard warranty is 2 years with the option of up to 5 years by registering within 90 days of purchase; for commercial use, the warranty period is 2 years.
