This custom-fit outboard motor cowl cover from Oceansouth protects the cowl of selected Mercury and Mercury Verado outboard motors during storage and trailering. The variant is selected based on the engine's model series, number of cylinders, displacement, horsepower, and year. The cover protects the cowl or engine hood, but not the motor leg, propeller, or the entire outboard motor.
The form-fitted slip-on design follows the contour of the cowl and is installed without tools or permanent fittings. An elasticized hem and a Twin Rope Cleat or dual rope-lock system secure the cover around the bottom edge and reduce wind flap during transport. The soft felt lining helps protect the surface from scratches and scuffs, while double-stitched and reinforced seams contribute to a robust construction.
The cover is made from 340 g/m² ATLAS Marine Grade fabric, consisting of 100% solution-dyed polyester with a PU coating. The material is breathable, water-resistant or waterproof depending on the variant, and UV-resistant. Proven material properties include at least 1,500 mm water column, UPF 50+ with a measured value over UPF 80, and light and weather fastness rated 6-7. The fabric protects against sun, rain, moisture, dust, dirt, salt, and transport-related grime.
Compatible engine families include Mercury 4-stroke with 3 cylinders and 747 cc, 4 cylinders with 995 cc, 2.1 L or 3.0 L, as well as Verado 4-cylinder 1.7 L and 6-cylinder 2.6 L engines. Horsepower ranges from 40 to 400 hp, and proven model years start from 2005, 2008, 2011, or 2014 depending on the variant. Always check engine data before ordering.
This is a non-vented storage cover and must only be used when the engine is turned off. It must be removed before starting the engine or using it during navigation. Clean with a soft brush, lukewarm water, and optionally mild soap. Avoid harsh detergents and chemical cleaners, and allow the cover to air dry completely before storage.
