This T-top shade extension with telescopic poles from Oceansouth is a detachable cover for an existing T-top, hardtop, or cabin roof. The navy blue version has dimensions of 210/210/150 cm and expands the shaded area at the stern of the boat. Depending on the installation, the shade can be extended up to 2.3 m aft.
The fabric is trapezoidal with a length of 210 cm, a width of 210 cm at the trailing edge, and a narrower width of 150 cm at the leading edge against the existing canopy. The construction consists of the fabric, two stainless steel telescopic poles, and adjustable attachment straps.
The telescopic poles can be adjusted from 1.3 to 2.0 m, allowing the mounting height to be adapted for sitting or standing. The poles are placed in the boat's existing aft-mounted rod holders, while the front straps are attached to the T-top frame. The rear straps are led to stern cleats, railings, or similar fixed points.
Installation is carried out by first placing the assembled telescopic poles into the rod holders. The short straps are connected to the trailing edge of the fabric, the front straps are fastened to the frame, and the long rear straps are attached to suitable points aft. The straps are then tightened until the fabric is positioned and tensioned correctly. When the necessary rod holders and attachment points already exist, installation requires neither drilling nor tools, and the kit can be mounted or dismounted while the boat is on the water.
The shade panel is made of 310 g/m² ATLAS Marine Grade Fabric, 100% polyester with a PU coating. The fabric is waterproof, breathable, and UV-resistant, as well as resistant to tearing, abrasion, mold, and mildew. It has a water column of at least 1,500 mm, UV protection of UPF 50+, and a measured UV value above UPF 80. The tensile strength is approximately 2,200 N in one direction and 1,400 N in the other, while the light and weather fastness is 6–7.
The cover can be used deployed at speeds of up to 20 knots. When not in use, the construction can be folded and stowed compactly. The scope of delivery consists of one navy blue shade panel, two stainless steel telescopic poles, front and rear webbing straps, and buckles and other fastening hardware. T-top, rod holders, cleats, and other fixed mounting points are not included.
