This Oceansouth model-specific motor cover for Yamaha outboards is a ventilated protective cover for the engine's upper cowling, motor hood, or engine cap. The cover is form-fitted to the contours of the selected engine variant and covers the engine hood itself – not the midsection or the entire outboard motor.
Integrated ventilation and mesh openings ensure airflow around the engine's air intake, allowing the cover to remain in place during engine operation, navigation, and in many cases, transport. Precise cutouts provide access to relevant controls such as tilt and trim switches, while the snug fit reduces wind flapping and the risk of the cover coming loose.
The cover is made of 340 g/m² ATLAS Marine Grade polyester, typically 100% solution-dyed or high-tech polyester with a PU coating. The material is breathable, water-repellent or water-resistant, UV-resistant, tear-resistant, and developed for marine use. Depending on the variant, the water column is at least 1,500 mm or the water resistance is at least 150 mbar. The UV protection is UPF 50+, and in several variants, it is measured at over UPF 80.
The material has a documented tensile strength of approximately 2,200/1,400 N, an elongation of approximately 40/30%, and a light and weather fastness of class 6–7. Selected variants also have a water repellency rating of 100, an oil repellency rating of 4, and a chlorine resistance rating of 4–5.
A soft felt or polyester lining protects the engine hood's surface from scratches and scuffs. Double stitching and reinforced seams increase durability, while an elastic marine hem, Twin Toggle Cleat, double rope cleat system, or integrated strap and buckle system keeps the cover securely in place. Some variants also feature lifting straps or carry handles.
The cover provides protection against sun, UV fading, rain, salt spray, dust, dirt, moisture, and general outdoor wear and tear. A compatible full-length cover can be installed over the ventilated motor cover on many models.
Select your variant based on engine model, model year, displacement, engine hood design, and any shaft length – not just engine power. Clean with a soft brush, lukewarm water, and mild soap if necessary. Avoid harsh detergents and chemicals, let the cover air dry, and store it clean and completely dry.
