Why are anodes important?
Galvanic corrosion occurs when dissimilar metals are in contact with each other in an electrolytic environment (e.g. salt water). The anode "sacrifices" itself by corroding in place of the more valuable metal parts of your drive, thereby protecting the drive and motor from damage.
