This RAILBLAZA C-Tug R conversion kit upgrades an existing classic C-Tug kayak and canoe cart to the C-Tug R system’s width-adjustable hull rails. The original hull pads are replaced by two long rails that provide a larger contact surface, distribute the load over a greater area, and can be adjusted for wide or complex hull profiles.
The two hull rails are approximately 500 mm long each and feature non-slip rubber strips that make contact with the kayak or canoe hull. The construction consists of UV-stabilized ABS, acetal, and polypropylene plastic, as well as stainless steel fasteners.
The rail bases are mounted onto the existing C-Tug structure. The rails are clicked into the hooks of the bases, laid flat, and adjusted in width until they support the appropriate bearing surfaces of the hull. The positioning is secured by manually tightening the included D-washers and bolts.
The kit contains 2 C-Tug R rails, 2 rail bases, 4 green D-washers, 4 hex bolts, and 4 nyloc nuts. Straps, wheels, and the rest of the cart structure are not included. A separate C-Tug strap kit with manufacturer number CT-1065 can be used if a new strap is needed.
The conversion kit is compatible with classic C-Tug carts with both Kiwi and SandTrakz wheels. The R-rail system is specifically developed for modern, wide hulls as well as tunnel and pontoon-style hulls, including the Hobie Pro Angler and Hobie Outback. It is not recommended for the Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL or Old Town AutoPilot 120. For traditional V-shaped touring kayaks, the original C-Tug hull pad is usually recommended over the R system.
After use in saltwater, sand, or dust, the cart should be disassembled and the chassis and axle areas rinsed thoroughly with fresh water. Solvents and solvent-based cleaning agents should be avoided. Prolonged storage in strong sunlight is discouraged, as rubber and thermoplastic can degrade. When the system is disassembled, the parts can be stored in most kayak hatches. The C-Tug system must not be used for transporting persons.
