Ritchie Globemaster 5″ marine compass with compensators and 12 V LED lighting is a magnetic navigation compass for flush mounting in a dashboard or console. The FB-500 version features a black housing, a black 127 mm compass card, and white graduations in 5° increments.
The open, flat compass card is suspended in a full internal gimbal system, which helps keep it stable while the boat is rolling and pitching. 90° lubber lines support precise course readings, while two built-in, adjustable compensator sets allow for the correction of fixed magnetic deviation.
The built-in green LED night lighting connects to 12 V DC. The lighting must be connected to a suitably fused circuit; for a separate compass circuit, a 1 A fast-acting AGC glass fuse is recommended. The fuse size is an installation recommendation and does not indicate the normal power consumption of the LED lighting.
The mounting flange has an outer diameter of approx. 191 mm, and the compass protrudes approx. 62 mm above the mounting surface. The recessed part requires approx. 126 mm of clearance depth, while the lower part has a diameter of approx. 157 mm. The required cutout hole is approx. 159 mm.
The compass must be mounted on a flat, horizontal surface using the included mounting gasket and non-magnetic fasteners. The mounting location should be kept at a distance from variable magnetic fields, such as those from high-current cables, wiper motors, and speakers. If possible, access to the compensator rods underneath the compass should be maintained.
The model is designed to be repairable and comes with a 5-year warranty. Documented accessories include the LL-C protective cover and mounting gasket 5G-0043. The green 12 V replacement light has the spare part number GM-0087 XSP. Salt and dirt should be rinsed off with fresh water, after which the surface should be wiped gently with a damp cloth without abrasive or chemical cleaning agents.
