The Ritchie Navigator 4½″ magnetic compass with compensators and 12 V LED lighting is a flush-mount marine compass for course reading on powerboats and sailboats. This white FNW-201 variant features a flat, top-reading, and open compass card with large numerals, as well as a white housing, white bezel, and white compass card.
The compass card has a nominal size of 4½″ and a diameter of 114 mm. The built-in compensators allow for the correction of the vessel's fixed deviation after final installation. The compass also features 45° lubber lines, a movable sun shield, and built-in 12 V LED night lighting.
The DirectiveForce magnets are designed for rapid stabilization on course. The compass card bearing consists of a sapphire jewel combined with a hardened steel pivot. The model features a high-temperature construction with an extended operating range, is fully repairable, and comes with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty.
The flush-mount design has a maximum outer diameter of 154 mm and extends 67 mm above the mounting surface. The installation depth is 76 mm, while the lower mounting housing has a diameter of 132 mm. The compass fits a mounting hole of 121–130 mm; the nominal cutout dimension is 130 mm.
The mounting location must be level and horizontal when the boat is on an even keel. The compass should be placed within view of the helmsman and at a distance from magnets, speakers, microphones, iron, steel, high-current electrical cables, and other equipment that may cause deviation. On sloped or curved surfaces, an appropriate wedge or adapter block must be used.
After installation, the compensators must be adjusted, and the deviation should be checked every 30° and recorded on a deviation card. The check should be repeated at the beginning of each sailing season and after installing new equipment near the compass. Clean with fresh water and a damp cloth without chemical or abrasive cleaners. Protect the compass from prolonged intense sunlight when the boat is not in use.
