Ritchie SuperSport flush-mount compass SS-1002 is a magnetic steering compass with a black housing and a blue 3¾″ PowerDamp Plus dial. It is developed and tested for offshore racing boats and is flush-mounted at the helm.
The open, flat compass dial features large white numerals and a PowerDamp skirt that limits oscillation from shocks and vibrations. DirectiveForce magnets contribute to rapid stabilization on course, while large steel pivots and sapphire jewels ensure smooth and quick movement. An internal gimbal system stabilizes the compass during the boat's pitch and roll.
The compass features built-in compensators for correcting fixed magnetic deviation as well as proven 45° lubber lines. The movable sunshield reduces glare and contains a green 12 V LED night light. The lighting must be connected to a suitably fused circuit.
The SS-1002 requires a flush-mount cutout of 102 mm. The maximum outer diameter is 131 mm, the height above the mounting surface is 62 mm, and the mounting depth below the surface is 57 mm. The bolt circle diameter is 117.4 mm. The compass centerline must be positioned parallel to the boat's centerline on a flat surface that is level when the boat is on an even keel.
Use non-magnetic fasteners and the correct model-specific mounting gasket. Sealing or bedding compound should not be applied directly to the compass. The mounting location must be kept free of magnetic objects, high-current cables, and electrical equipment that can cause deviation. After installation, the compass must be compensated and checked on several headings; the check should be repeated at the start of the season and after installing new equipment nearby.
The compass is manufactured in the USA and is designed to be serviceable. The sealed dome, disk, and bowl capsule are usually replaced as a single unit during capsule-related service. Maintenance is performed with clean fresh water and a damp cloth without abrasive or chemical cleaning agents. The warranty period is five years from the date of purchase in accordance with the warranty terms.
Proven accessories include the H-741-C protective cover, HL-0219 mounting gasket, and SH-0195 replacement kit for the green 12 V LED lighting. The black H-ABLK adapter can be used for retrofitting in existing mounting holes of approximately 4¼″-5″ and is supplied as an adapter kit with the HL-0105 gasket.
