This Ritchie SuperSport flush-mount compass model SS-2000W is a magnetic marine compass for permanent installation on offshore racing boats, offshore sport fishing boats, and other high-performance powerboats. This variant has a white housing, a blue 4½" compass card with large white numerals, and built-in green LED lighting for 12 V DC.
The flat PowerDamp Plus compass card is designed for fast and stable directional reading. A skirt around the compass card reduces oscillation, while DirectiveForce magnets and heavy-duty steel pivots and jewels contribute to quick directional locking and smooth movement. The compass also features 45° lubber lines, internal gimbaling, and built-in compensators for adjusting for fixed magnetic deviation.
The compass card has a nominal diameter of 4½" equivalent to 114 mm. The outer front diameter is 154 mm, the height above the mounting surface is 67 mm, and the mounting depth is 76 mm. The rear mounting section has a diameter of 132 mm. The optically clear polymer dome is designed to resist sun-related cracking and large temperature fluctuations.
The compass is flush-mounted in a hole with a diameter of 120.6–130.2 mm. The bolt circle is 137.4 mm. The mounting surface must be flat and horizontal when the boat is on an even keel, and the compass centerline must be placed parallel to the boat's centerline. The associated mounting gasket must be used, and the fasteners must be non-magnetic. For a separate power supply to the lighting, a suitably fused circuit with a fast-acting 1 A AGC glass fuse is recommended.
The location must be chosen at a distance from speakers, microphones, iron and steel parts, power cables, engines, and other equipment that may affect the magnetic field. The built-in compensators can be used to correct for fixed deviation. The deviation should be checked at the start of every sailing season and after installing new equipment near the compass.
The SS-2000W is fully repairable and comes with a 5-year warranty against defects in material and workmanship. Documented accessories include mounting gasket NV-0175, protective cover N-203-C, and 12 V green LED replacement lighting SH-0176 XSP. Mounting template NV-0076 can be used for installation. Salt and dirt should be rinsed off with clean fresh water, after which the compass should be wiped gently with a damp cloth; chemical and abrasive cleaning agents should be avoided.
