This Ritchie SuperSport magnetic flush-mount compass, model SS-2000, features a blue 4½" compass card and a black housing. The compass is developed for offshore racing boats and high-performance motorboats, where stable and clear course readings are essential during rolling and pitching.
The blue PowerDamp Plus dial has extra-large white numerals and 45° lubber lines. The skirt around the dial reduces oscillation, while larger DirectiveForce magnets and heavy-duty steel pivots and jewels contribute to quick stabilization and smooth movement. An internal gimbal system helps keep the dial stable during adverse motion.
The built-in green LED lighting is powered by 12 V DC and makes the dial easier to read in the dark. When connecting to a separate electrical circuit, a properly fused installation is recommended; a fast-acting 1 A AGC glass fuse is the specified fuse solution and must not be confused with the compass's power consumption.
The compass has a nominal dial diameter of 4½", equivalent to 114 mm. The maximum outer diameter over the flange and housing is 154 mm, the height above the mounting surface is 67 mm, and the mounting depth is 76 mm. The recessed lower part has a diameter of approximately 132 mm.
The SS-2000 is flush-mounted in a horizontal surface. Mounting template NV-0076 specifies a cutout of 120.6-130.2 mm and a bolt circle of 137.4 mm. The compass centerline must be aligned parallel to the boat's centerline, and the mounting area must be free of magnetic interference from, among other things, speakers, current-carrying wires, wiper motors, and ferrous components. Use the included mounting gasket and non-magnetic mounting hardware.
The built-in compensation system allows for the correction of magnetic deviation after installation. Deviation should be checked every 30° and recorded in a deviation table. The check should be repeated at the start of the season and after installing electrically or magnetically influencing equipment near the compass.
Clean the compass with fresh water and a damp cloth, without chemical or abrasive cleaning agents. The construction is 100% repairable and covered by a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. Documented accessories and service parts include protective cover N-203-C, mounting gasket NV-0175, green 12 V LED unit SH-0176 XSP, and mounting template NV-0076.
