This Ritchie SuperSport flush-mount compass in model SS-5000W is a magnetic marine compass with a 5" blue compass card and a white housing. It is designed for offshore racing boats and other high-performance motorboats where stable and clear heading readings are essential.
The flat PowerDamp Plus compass card has a nominal diameter of 127 mm, 5° graduations, and large white numerals. The damping system combines a dampening skirt design, DirectiveForce magnets, and heavy-duty pivots and bearings for quick settling and reduced oscillation. An internal gimbal system stabilizes the reading during rolling and pitching, while built-in magnetic compensators allow for the correction of fixed deviation.
The compass operates magnetically without electrical power. The built-in green LED light requires 12 V and provides illuminated readings in the dark. The red wire connects to positive, and the black wire connects to ground or negative via a suitably fused circuit.
The mounting flange is up to 191 mm wide, and the compass extends 62 mm above the mounting surface. The mounting depth is 126 mm, while the lower mounting section is 157 mm wide. Installation requires a cutout hole of 159 mm as well as sufficient clearance below the mounting surface.
The compass is mounted flush on a horizontal surface and aligned parallel to the boat's keel line. The location must be checked for magnetic interference from sources such as speakers, steel, power-carrying cables, windshield wipers, and other electrical installations. Use the mounting gasket and non-magnetic screws or fasteners. Sealant should be avoided, as certain chemicals can damage the plastic dome.
The design is serviceable and repairable. Documented service components include the LL-C protective cover, 5G-0043 mounting gasket, and GM-0087 XSP green 12 V replacement lighting. The product comes with a five-year manufacturer's warranty against defects in materials and workmanship.
