This Ritchie Voyager 3″ marine compass with compensators and 12V LED lighting is the S-87W model for surface mounting on powerboats. The white compass features a white CombiDamp dial with combined front and top reading, allowing the heading to be viewed from different angles.
The nominal dial measures 3″/76 mm. Built-in green LED night lighting at both the front and the sunshield makes the dial readable in the dark. The lighting is designed for 12V, and the built-in compensators are used to correct for fixed compass deviation.
The compact, low-profile design is made from high-temperature resistant composite material. The matched movement system has a sapphire jewel bearing, a hardened steel pivot, and DirectiveForce magnets, which contribute to fast stabilization of the heading display. The compass also has a movable sunshield and a fully repairable construction.
The compass has a maximum overall width of 115 mm and an overall height of 83 mm. It is mounted on top of a flat, horizontal surface, which must be level when the boat is on an even keel. On curved or sloped surfaces, a suitable shim must be used to bring the compass to the correct level.
The location should be chosen with the least possible magnetic interference from, among other things, speakers, microphones, steel, live wires, windshield wipers, and other electrical equipment. Use non-magnetic fasteners or suitable mounting pads. The built-in compensators are generally intended to correct for fixed deviation of up to approximately 15° at each cardinal point.
The model comes with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty. Documented replacement parts include the SH-0195 KIT for green 12V lighting and the V-83-C protective cover. Alternative red 12V replacement lighting is available as the SH-0202 KIT.
