This Ritchie Voyager Wheelmark 3″ magnetic compass is model F-83-WM for flush mounting in sailboats, motorboats, motor sailers, and commercial vessels. The black compass card has a diameter of 76 mm and can be read from both the front and above via the CombiDial/CombiDamp display.
The compass has built-in compensators for correcting fixed deviation. DirectiveForce magnets ensure rapid stabilization on course, while a sapphire jewel bearing and hardened steel pivot support precise and stable movement. The card is graduated in 5° increments, with cardinal and intercardinal markings every 45° as well as numeral markings every 30°.
The built-in night lighting consists of two light sets with green Green NiteVu LED lighting for 12 V DC. For separate electrical installation, a fast-acting 1 A AGC glass fuse is recommended, and both light sets can be connected to the same fused circuit.
The housing is manufactured from a high-temperature resistant composite construction. The external flange measures 133 mm in diameter, the compass extends 51 mm above the mounting surface, and requires a 33 mm installation depth. The mounting cutout is 107 mm, and the mounting screw bolt circle is 121.9 mm. The movable sun shield can be adjusted according to light conditions.
The compass is mounted on a flat and horizontal surface with the centerline parallel to the boat's centerline. The mounting location must be kept free from unnecessary magnetic interference from items such as speakers, microphones, iron, steel, current-carrying wires, and electrical equipment. Use non-magnetic fasteners and the included mounting gasket; sealant is discouraged, as certain products may damage the compass.
The F-83-WM is Wheelmark type-approved as a magnetic Class B compass for lifeboats and rescue boats and is also type-tested for workboats. The approval follows the Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU, category MED/4.23, with Module B certificate DK-MED000099, Issue 05. The compass meets, among others, relevant SOLAS, IMO, ISO 1069, ISO 25862, and IEC 60945 requirements.
The model is fully repairable and comes with a 5-year manufacturer's warranty against material and manufacturing defects. For maintenance, rinse the compass with clean fresh water and wipe with a damp cloth without chemical or abrasive cleaners. Deviation should be checked at the start of the season and after installing new equipment nearby.
