This Riviera Aries 2½″ bayonet-mount magnetic compass is a liquid-filled marine compass for direct front reading. The all-black variant features a black compass card, black housing, and black base, and is supplied without lighting. The compass is intended for mounting at the helm of standard and high-speed boats.
The visible compass card measures 65 mm (2½″) and has 5° graduations. The needle suspension and anti-glare screen support clear reading, while an elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the compass liquid and prevents bubble formation within the temperature range of −30 °C to +60 °C. The compass liquid is Shell Sol D/70.
The compass is designed for surface mounting without recessing. The included bracket is fastened to a suitable flat surface, after which the compass is inserted into the bayonet socket and turned 90° clockwise until it locks. The bayonet mount also allows the compass to be removed when necessary. The base has a diameter of 100 mm, and the product height is 60 mm.
The installation site must be located as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous parts, as these can affect the reading. The model has no internal compensation and cannot be compensated retrospectively. It is intended for navigation within six nautical miles with no requirement for type approval; this does not constitute a separate product certification.
The compass is designed, hand-assembled, and manufactured in Italy. It should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water and no chemical cleaning agents. The manufacturer's warranty is 3 years or 36 months from the date of manufacture, which is stamped on the flange.
