This Riviera Artica 2¾″ magnetic compass in the BA3 version is a liquid-dampened marine compass for pedestal mounting on a horizontal console or deck. The model features a gray housing, a flat blue compass card, and rear reading, allowing the course to be read from the aft side of the compass card.
The visible compass card has a diameter of 70 mm and white scale markings every 5°. A white lubber line provides a clear reference point, while the anti-glare screen reduces distracting reflections. Integrated 12 V LED lighting with blue light makes the scale readable after dark.
The internal semi-cardan suspension helps the compass maintain a stable position during the boat's movements. The compass card is liquid-dampened, and an elastic membrane compensates for volume changes in the fluid. The construction is stable within a documented temperature range from −30 °C to +60 °C and is designed for both standard vessels and high-speed boats.
The built-in, manually adjustable compensator system is used to correct for local magnetic interference. The compass is supplied with standard calibration for geographic zone A. It must be mounted as far as practically possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects, and compensation should be performed after installation by a qualified professional using a non-magnetic screwdriver.
The BA3 model measures 109 mm in total height and has a maximum diameter of 133 mm. The compass is placed on the mounting surface, after which holes are drilled through the pedestal flange. The two wires for the lighting must only be connected once the vessel's mains voltage has been checked. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened; only the compensator screws are intended for adjustment.
The compass is manufactured in Italy and designed to be repairable. It is cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. The warranty period is 36 months from the production date on the flange. The manufacturer number is 62.00305.01, and the documented 12 V spare light source has part no. 2160412.
