This Riviera Artica 2¾″ magnetic marine compass, model BA1 Slim, is a compact steering compass for horizontal, flush-mount installation. This version features a white housing, a black compass card, and front-reading with a red lubber line. It is designed for both standard and high-speed vessels.
The visible compass card measures 2¾″, equivalent to 70 mm, and is graduated every 5°. An internal semi-gimbal system stabilizes the compass card, while the anti-glare screen improves readability. The compass has built-in manual compensation and is supplied calibrated for geographic zone A.
The BA1 Slim has a compact casing with an outer top flange of Ø 109 mm and a total height of 106 mm. The lower mounting section is Ø 82 mm, and the measurement from the underside of the flange to the base of the mounting section is 55 mm. The Ø 82 mm refers to the mounting section itself and is not a cutout dimension including mounting tolerance.
The integrated blue LED illumination is designed for 12 V. Check the vessel's supply voltage before connection. The compass should be mounted as far as practically possible from magnetic fields, moving ferrous objects, and other equipment that may affect the magnetic reading.
The compass fluid is the petroleum-based Shell Sol D/70 and has a proven stability range from −30 °C to +60 °C. An elastic membrane compensates for fluid volume changes within this interval. After installation, the compass must be compensated by a qualified professional using a non-magnetic screwdriver.
The compass is handcrafted in Italy and comes with a 36-month warranty from the date of manufacture. It can be repaired by the manufacturer, but filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened; only the compensator screws are intended for adjustment. Cleaning is performed with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. An individual MED certificate is not standard and must be ordered with the compass if required.
