This Riviera Artica 2¾" magnetic compass, model BA1, is designed for horizontal, flush-mount installation in a boat console or a similar mounting surface. This variant features a blue compass card, a grey housing, and rear-reading. The visible compass card has a diameter of 70 mm and white markings with 5° graduation.
The internal semi-cardanic suspension stabilizes the compass card during the boat's movements. The compass features an anti-glare screen and built-in manual compensation with adjustable compensator screws. The screws must be adjusted with a non-magnetic screwdriver, and final compensation after installation should be performed by a qualified professional.
Integrated blue LED lighting allows for reading in the dark and is connected to a 12 V power supply via the two LED wires. The compass is calibrated for Zone A as standard. Calibration for Zone B or C is a separate order option.
The BA1 model has a maximum flange diameter of 134 mm, an overall height of 106 mm, and an installation depth of 55 mm below the mounting surface. The lower installation housing has a diameter of 82 mm. Mounting requires a cutout of Ø108.5 mm as well as three Ø2.5 mm mounting holes placed at 120° intervals on a Ø120 mm hole circle.
The compass is liquid-filled with Shell SolD/70 and has an elastic diaphragm that compensates for volume changes in the liquid. The liquid system is designed for temperatures from −30 °C to +60 °C. The product is manufactured and hand-assembled in Italy and can be disassembled and repaired. The warranty period is 36 months from the manufacturing date stamped on the flange.
The compass must be mounted as far as possible from magnetic fields and moving ferrous objects. It should be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with fresh water. Filling plugs and other screws must not be loosened. The Artica series is quality-controlled according to RINA requirements, while any individual MED certificate must be ordered with the compass and is not included as standard.
